Pedestrians

  • New paved space throughout the area, equal to twice the present pedestrianised area of Trafalgar Square
  • Better access to buildings and public spaces, particularly Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square. Use of Squares transformed by better links
  • More direct routes, reduced walking times and fewer delays
  • Widened pavements in Northumberland Avenue and Whitehall
  • Richmond Terrace widened to connect Downing Street more strongly to the River
  • Improved connections between Trafalgar Square and the new Hungerford Bridge
