21/09/98 Seeking Intern Position in the Field of Town Planning Please accept the attached curriculum vitae as my expressed interest in joining your firm / organisation to contribute and develop my skills and abilities. I have recently completed my Master's degree in Town & Regional Planning at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, and am now hoping to gain an intern position with a successful and well-established UK town planning firm / organisation. My main objective is to gain a broader insight into the planning profession during my sabbatical in the UK. In determining my future career path here in South Africa, I have been advised by planners in the field that such a practical experience would greatly enrich my academic background and prove invaluable to my development as a planner. I am committed to skilling myself and feel that any exposure to international planning principles and precedent would greatly benefit my contribution to the South Africa profession. The attached curriculum vitae summarizes my experiences and highlights a few of my most recent academic and extramural accomplishments. At university I was extensively involved in Student Leadership, and tried hard to augment the academic side of my degrees with practical experience in the form of relevant vacation work and involvement in many service organisations on campus. For my Masters Thesis "A Spatial Development Framework for the Saldanha-Vredenburg Peninsula" I gained a distinction and the top class mark for my year. In reiterating my enthusiasm to work for your firm / organisation I am confident that the skills and conceptual insight that I could contribute as a planner, coupled with my eagerness to learn, would ensure a positive addition to your planning team. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to further discuss my qualifications and enthusiasm for any available positions. Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to speaking with you soon. Sincerely Simon Beamish PROFESSIONAL OBJECTIVES It is my objective to visit the United Kingdom in November this year on sabbatical, in order to gain a broader insight and enrich my experiences in the Town Planning profession before specializing and completing further studies relevant to my career in South Africa.
