UK: Stairs: Stair Manufacturers & Suppliers

The most common type of stair is made from timber, and is either straight or a winder (with one or more turns). Stairs can be provided with matching wooden balustrades, whose spindles may be of simple square design, or of traditional decorative turned design. Available woods include Oak, Beech, Ash, and Pine. Where space is limited, ladder-like spacesaver stairs can be provided; these are steep, and have alternating cut backs in each stair tread. Another space saving option is spiral stairs. Spiral stairs can be supplied in kit form for assembly on site, with central column and treads of wood or metal. Leading UK suppliers of stairs are profiled below the panel of sponsored links.

Stairplan: Stairs. Stairplan, which operates from Telford, Shropshire, is a family firm specialising in the manufacture of stairs. In order to maintain the required quality all stairs are assembled in the Stairplan workshops before being dismantled into sections which are a suitable size for delivery and passing through a normal doorway. The main Stairplan product range covers: Straight Stairs, Straight Stairs with Handrails, Flat-Pack Straight Stairs, Short Straight Stairs, Straight Oak Stairs, Straight Ash Stairs, Winder Stairs, Landing Balustrade, and Spiral Stairs. Another option is Ash Open Plan European Style Stairs. These have metal rod spindles, and open treads without risers. There is an Economy Range of straight and winder stairs. There is also a range of Spacesaver Stairs, including: Birch 24 Spacesaver (with 24mm treads), Beech 40 Spacesaver (with 40mm treads), and Oak 40 Spacesaver. The Spacesaver staircases are steeper than normal stairs, and have alternate sides of each tread recessed.

Pear Stairs: Stairs. Pear Stairs, based in Welshpool, Wales, are a leading manufacturer and distributor of stair parts and complete stairs. The Pear Stairs website carries more than 170 images of previous projects, illustrating numerous options for stairs. Steel spindles, giving a wrought iron appearance, are also available. Different spindle designs can be alternated. For example a barley-twist traditional wooden spindle can be alternated with a Georgian grooved spindle. And a more elaborate decorative metal spindle can be alternated with a simpler one.
