Replacement Windows

UK: Replacement Windows: Replacement Window Manufacturers & Suppliers

When choosing replacement windows you need to consider whether it is important that the appearance of the building is maintained. Often the motive for installing replacement windows will be to improve insulation by using double or triple glazing. Particularly if made of UPVC, these used to look very different from original wooden sash or casement timber windows. It is now possible to obtain double-glazed replacement windows in UPVC, timber, aluminium and steel, which give good insulation but also retain the original appearance. Some allow both sides to be cleaned from inside. Leading UK suppliers of replacement windows are profiled below the panel of sponsored links.

Everest: Replacement Windows. Everest, based in Potters Bar, is a leading UK manufacturer of home improvement products including replacement windows. Although best known for its UPVC replacement windows, Everest also supplies aluminium and timber replacement windows. Seven types of replacement window are offered: Casement Windows, Cottage Windows, Dual Turn Windows, Vertical Sliding Sash Windows, Tilt and Turn Windows, Secondary Windows, and Fully Reversible Windows. The Cottage Double Glazed Windows are made from UPVC and have traditional glazing bars which are internally and externally applied. The Dual Turn Double Glazed Windows are made of timber, and give the appearance of traditional sash windows. The sashes swing around completely, so that the outside surfaces can be cleaned from the inside of the house. Everest Tilt and Turn Double Glazed Windows can be opened at the top for ventilation, or can be swung inward on side hinges.

Jeld Wen: Replacement Windows. Jeld Wen UK is a leading UK maker of timber doors and windows, including replacement windows. With its head office in Sheffield, Yorkshire, Jeld Wen UK has manufacturing plants in Melton Mowbray and Penrith. Jeld Wen UK is part of the international Jeld Wen group, based in Klamath Falls, Oregon, USA. Jeld Wen offers replacement windows made from timber, or from a combination of timber and external aluminium cladding. Its high performance DreamVu range is a double glazed window designed to meet the most stringent carbon reduction requirements of the Code for Sustainable Homes. It is available in all timber, or in timber clad externally in aluminium - which may be provided powder coated in any RAL colour. Replacement windows in the DreamVu range may be top hung or side hung, and are factory glazed with either clear or obscure glass.

Crittall: Replacement Windows. Crittall, based in Witham, Essex, has been making metal windows since 1884. Its steel windows, with their narrow frames and narrow glazing bars, became very popular in the 1930s. With the passage of time such windows have tended to become rusted and leaky. Crittall now offers a much improved steel window which retains the look of the original, but is double glazed, draught-proof, and resistant to rust. These replacement windows, known as the Homelight range, are made of steel which is galvanized and powder coated. This eliminates the need for regular re-painting, and reduces the risk of rust. Properly maintained, Crittall replacement steel windows can be expected to last the life of the building. Crittal suggest that after ten to twenty years the steel replacement windows may need a decorative re-coat using a standard undercoat/top coat alkyd system.
