External Doors

UK: External Doors: External Door Manufacturers & Suppliers

Mass-produced external doors are made from either timber or composite. Timber external doors may be made of hardwood, or of engineered wood with a hardwood veneer. Composite external doors are made from a glass reinforced polyester (GRP) skin, which is moulded and applied to a composite or engineered wood framing. The core of the door may be filled with a rigid polyurethane foam. Composite external doors are very stable, insulate well, and need no painting as they have a permanent finish. However, they do not have the authentic character of real wood external doors. Leading UK suppliers of external doors are profiled below the panel of sponsored links.

Jeld-Wen: External Doors. Jeld-Wen is a leading international manufacturer of timber products including external doors, with more than 20,000 staff across the world. It originated in 1960 in Oregon, USA. Jeld-Wen bought the former John Carr and Boulton & Paul joinery manufacturers in 1999, and from these formed Jeld-Wen UK. Jeld-Wen UK has its headquarters in Sheffield, and manufactures doors in Sheffield and in Melton Mowbray. The Jeld-Wen range of external doors includes doors made from timber, composite, and steel. Jeld-Wen composite external doors are made from glass reinforced polyester (GRP). Engineered composite rails and stiles completely seal the insulating core; the the pre-pigmented GRP skins are scratch resistant and waterproof. The skins have a wood grain effect, and the panels are compression moulded in high definition. The GRP skin is bonded to the composite sub frame, and the door is injection filled with a rigid polyurethane core.

Carey & Fox: External Doors. Carey & Fox, based in South Kirkby, West Yorkshire, is a manufacturer of bespoke external doors. It also makes sliding-folding doors, patio doors, stable doors, and French doors. All door treatment uses environmentally-friendly Sikkens coating systems from Akzo Nobel. These are water-borne coatings which allows timber to exchange moisture with the environment in a gradual way. They have greatly reduced environmental impact compared to solvent-borne coatings. The Carey & Fox Executive range of external doors are made from engineered laminated timber. This reduces shrinking, warping, twisting, and movement. They are available in any colour or stain, and can be incorporated into almost any size of opening. They can be designed to include side lights, fan lights, and barn entrance openings. All doors are supplied with all ironmongery fitted; this may be in modern chrome, polished brass, or black wrought iron.

Olde Worlde Oak Joinery: External Doors. Olde Worlde Oak Joinery is a family firm run by Robert Carless and his wife Samantha. It is based in Cannock, Staffordshire. It specialises in the manufacture of oak external doors. All external doors, whether of standard or bespoke design, are made to order. The external doors are made only from prime grade English or European Oak from sustainable sources. Five standard door shapes are offered: The Balmoral (straight head), The Appleby (semi-circular head), The Hermitage (swept head), The Portchester (gothic arch head), and The Windsor (gentle arch head). For the panels of the door, the customer can choose from several panel designs. All external oak doors are supplied untreated or with a full finish.
